The Role

As Gallery & Sales Manager, you'll lead and support a team of Gallery Associates, ensuring our galleries run smoothly and every visitor leaves with a lasting impression. You're a natural people-person who is equally comfortable coaching a team member, liaising with curators, and solving the unexpected challenges that come with a busy public space.

What You'll Do

Gallery Associate management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the museum's galleries
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and mentor Gallery Associates
  • Monitor gallery conditions to ensure artwork safety and visitor wellbeing
  • Manage budgets related to gallery staffing and operations
  • Collaborate with curatorial and Education teams on exhibition openings and other programs

Art sales management

  • Set up and maintain art sales spreadsheets
  • Ensure artists are notified of art sales and collect artist w-9s
  • Arrange for shipping of artwork with the curatorial team
  • Send and track shipping invoices
  • Make or delegate artwork pick-up calls to buyers
  • Assist in museum shop inventory management and sales
  • Assist Deputy Director with setup of annual craft market

Visitor services management

  • Work with Marketing Director to ensure that all collateral and digital signage is current
  • Coordinate and welcome group tours
  • Develop and maintain visitor experience standards and procedures
  • Prepare regular reports on visitor feedback and gallery performance via the COVES program
  • Work with advancement coordinator and gallery associates to increase membership sales through visitor conversions
  • Become familiar with SVAC’s CRM software
  • Oversee and troubleshoot Point of Sale software (Acme and Square)

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of customer service or retail experience (museum, gallery, or cultural institution helpful)
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills — with staff, visitors, and senior leadership alike
  • Calm and composed under pressure, with a solutions-focused mindset
  • Familiarity with gallery safety and artwork handling protocols is a plus
