Job Description:

The Education Department in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Education at Roger Williams University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in STEM Education, to begin in Fall 2026.

We seek a dynamic scholar-educator with expertise in educational technology and integrated STEM education (connections among Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) to join our collaborative education faculty. This position supports our new Master of Arts in STEM Education program and represents an exciting opportunity to shape the future of interdisciplinary STEM teaching and learning at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

This is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment with opportunities for summer teaching and research support.

Teaching and Mentoring

• Teach technology-focused and STEM education courses in our undergraduate programs and our new Master of Arts in STEM Education program;
• Collaborate with colleagues in mathematics education, science education, and STEM disciplines to design and deliver coursework that equips students with deep understanding of STEM education;
• Engage students in innovative, integrative strategies for teaching STEM concepts, including design-based learning, transdisciplinary challenges, and problem-solving approaches that reflect real-world contexts;
• Provide academic advising, career guidance, and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students;
• Teach courses in multiple modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online) as needed; and,
• Supervise student teaching and field experiences in partnership with local schools.

Research and Scholarship

• Establish and maintain an active research program in STEM education or educational technology;
• Pursue grant funding from federal, state, and private agencies to support research activities;
• Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences; and,
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research and scholarly activities.

Service and Collaboration

• Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment for STEM education programs;
• Recruit and advise undergraduate students pursuing the STEM Education Minor, as well as graduate students enrolled in the Master of Arts in STEM Education program;
• Support state-level accreditation for teacher preparation programs, including compiling documentation aligned with Rhode Island Department of Education standards, contributing to program reviews and continuous improvement efforts, and collaborating with faculty to ensure timely and accurate submission of required materials;
• Participate in departmental, college, and university governance through committee work;
• Build and sustain partnerships with school districts, educational organizations, and community stakeholders;
• Engage actively in the broader STEM education community through professional organizations; and,
• Contribute to the university community through service and engagement in departmental and institutional initiatives.

Requirements:

• Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in STEM Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution, completed by the start date
• Minimum of 2 years of K-12 teaching experience in a STEM discipline
• Demonstrated expertise in educational technology and integrated STEM education
• Active scholarly agenda in STEM education or educational technology
• Evidence of effective teaching in STEM education or educational technology courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues across STEM and education disciplines
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, student-centered teaching and mentoring, with attention to culturally and linguistically diverse learners, students with disabilities, and those from historically marginalized and underrepresented groups.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong background in integrated STEM pedagogy across K-12 levels (e.g., design-based learning, project-based learning, transdisciplinary approaches)
• Record of interdisciplinary collaboration that enhances STEM learning at undergraduate and graduate levels
• Evidence of scholarly productivity (peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or creative contributions) in integrated STEM education research that bridges multiple disciplines.
• Record of securing external funding or demonstrated potential to do so
• Expertise in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research in STEM education
• Background in curriculum development and assessment in STEM fields
• Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse learners, students with disabilities, and those from historically marginalized and underrepresented groups
• Demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research and scholarly activities
• Interest in building community partnerships that connect STEM education to local schools, nonprofits, or industry
• Engagement with professional organizations in STEM education or educational technology
